Laptop problems skype application not found

Hello,
I have laptop dell inspiron 1545 Windows Vista home premium and after probable virus infection, whenever I try to open skype a message appears saying C:\Program files (x86)\Skype\Phone\Skype.exe Application not found. Also some Icons i double click ask what program to open with and it didn't normally do that.

help would be much appreciated

Are you trying to open Skype from a shortcut?
If so the link is probably bad.

Open windows explorer and navigate to the program files|skype directory and fine skpe.exe.
Right click it and hit create shortcut.
Grab the new shortcut and drag it to the desktop,

I am having the same problem.
then when I try to go to skype.com and try to down load it it gives me the same message.
