I am new at this. Where can I find resources for what is available in:
1. front projection HD models that are popular and reasonably priced
2. experience, pros and cons vs. rear projection LCD and DLP sets
3. how do front projection interface with cable and DVDs.
4. reliability, picture quality
5. in sum there is so much discussion regarding plasma and rear LCD and DLP,
still not much on front projection as an alternative to LCD and DLP.
I sure appreciate the wealth of knowledge within this group.

Front projection + HDTV + reasonably priced in same sentence is oxymoron.

Really? It seems to me front projection would be the best value of all
HDTVs. The biggest drawback being you need a pretty good light controlled
room to get a good picture.
Projectors capable of 720p aren't that expensive are they?

Thanks, I have spent much time on that site back when I was strongly
considering a projector. If it wasn't for the controlled light room, I
would be using one. They seem like the best value for a large HD image.

Even the 800X600 units that aren't true HDTV do an excellent job with HD
material. I have a Benq 6100 and it works great with really sharp image.
Basically equal or better than EDTV Plasma but less than $1000.

Dan, I have used front projectors for almost 30 years. My first was a
Novebeam, then a Mits. Both were 3 guns. Now I am using a Yamaha
LPX-510. PQ is absolutely super with this projector. I use a 45* 80
image size. The projector is in front of the couch on the lower shelf
of a coctail table. Eyeball to screen distance is adout 13 ft.
My biggest problem was hooking the thing up. I have to run the wires
in the garage under the floor and up thru the floor from the
recievers, dvd player, tape player, and 2 stb's. I'm sure there will
be more junk to hookup in the future. I know everyone goes thru the
same process but a projector complicates it. Cables alone were over
$400.00 and I made all the rca cables myself. (Canare LV-61S) The 23
foot DVI/HDMI cable I got at bluejeanscabe.com. Works perfect.
http://www.bus.ucf.edu/cwhite/theater/DIYCable.htm is a great site for
DIY cables.
The screen is another expense. The problem is that one just can't
run down to a local retailer and see what is best. All the samples I
got didn't help much either.
OK to email me. Remove nospam.

It can do native 720p, and downconverts 1080i nicely.
It has a much better picture than my old Pioneer Elite PRO610HD, which
*could* do 1080i native.
You want a 1080i native FPTV, you're going to pay 5 figures. No way around
that.

720 != 576.

I'm a contractor. If you want an opinion, I'll sell you one.
Which one do you want?

No, it is native 576. Maybe very good, but not HD.
