put it in baseq3

also make sure the file is really name autoexec.cfg and not autoexec.cfg.txt

this is a common mistake made by people that have the option to hide
known file types checked in the folder options panel

an easy way around this would be to get your settings the way you want
them then type /writeconfig autoexec.cfg in the console

Is there a way to load the cfg while q3a boots with a parameter after the
game path or anything?

I'm guessing this is when you are starting up a mod or you have other mods
with different q3config.cfg files.

Make sure you change the settings in baseq3 q3config.cfg and in the mod
folders q3config.cfg files.

Not sure why this works, but it worked for me once.

I worked out what I had to do.. I had to make all the changes I wanted and
then make the autoexec and q3config in the arena and baseq3 folders read
only. Problem doesn't happen anymore
