Dear Forum Members,

I have a Toshiba P200 laptop designed for Vista and downgraded by the supplier to XP Home SP3 so that I could run marine navigation systems on it.

After about a year some programmes slowed down and irritating problems developed.

I tried using System Restore, but after going through the restoration motions a screen announced that my laptop could not be restored and suggested I chose another restore date, I did this several times with different dates, but without success.

I decided to get the operating system reloaded. Before I did this I used Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to transfer the data from the laptop to a Toshiba external hard drive. To be absolutely safe I copied the files from the external hard drive to DVDs.

After XP Home SP3 had been re-installed, I used the Files and Settings Transfer Wizard to retrieve my data from the external hard drive. The transfer started off normally, but when the progress bar got about halfway down the track it stopped and a screen announced “An error occurred while the wizard was loading your data. The wizard cannot create the data needed to save your settings. Make sure you have enough disk space available”

The data I was trying to transfer amounted to less than 10 gigs, there was more than 150 gig space available on the hard drive. I tried several times and included the DVDs. I even tried other computers, but the result is always the same.

The external hard drive and the DVDs contain identical data, a folder titled USMT2.UNC containing 6 files labeled sequentially from IMG0001.DAT to IMG0006.DAT plus a status file. To this date I have not been able to open these files.

I would be very grateful to the Forum if somebody could explain how I should proceed with this.

System Restore still does not work, I have a feeling the two problems may be connected, this is not as important to me as my files, but it would be nice to get it going.

Best regards to all
