As a general propostion, the Fusions, AverMedia, Hauppauge, and ATI brands are all good.
I would say that signal strength is more a proposition of your antenna systems at your residence and the distances from the broadcast stations in your house. Indeed, it also matters where inside your house your tuner is located, especially if you do not use a roof antenna.
I'd recommend that you check out the HD broadcast properties of where you live, and then go about getting the tuners. CheckHS.com and antennaweb.org
Otherwise, some of the tuner models are better than others in picking up weak signals. For example, there are reports that say that the OnAir USB tuner that is externally powered can do better in picking up weaker signals that the OnAir USB GT model that is powered only by the USB port.
The complete answer you seek would be rather lenghty and more detailed than this.
I'm up in Markham, Ontario, so trying to find OTA HD broadcast properties as thus far been a daunting task 8O .
I am going to be hooking this up to my oldschool tv antenna that is mounted to my roof, so I can assume that will bring decent reception, but I'm about 50km away from the CN Tower and I think I read somewhere that HD OTA broadcasts as far as 50km from the CN Tower.
