I'm currently running a Pentium 4 550 3.4ghz with 2 gigs of Corsair XMS, with 1 evga 7800GT. Untill Yesturday i could run all my games maxed out @ 1280 x 1024. I found the Demo for Lost Planet on Nzone and i'm able to run it maxed but i only get around 20fps or less.
Would Buying an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 improve my performance to a playable level? or Getting a nother 7800GT a better idea.
Is my system still a gaming machine to todays standards? Or is it just the DEMO cuz i never had a problems with other games.

Yeah, usually the Demo's are not fine tuned to push out decent FPS... I wouldn't go second guessing your system just yet because of a demo. Plus there are near to no games that actually take advantage of a dual core processor. If you were to upgrade anything it would be the video card... but even that I wouldn't recommend doing till the DX10 compatible cards drop in value (Hopefully ATI will catch up soon so we have some GPU competition).

According to a post by a CapCom guy in the Lost Planet PC forum the final game is performing better for both DX9 and DX10 versions, DX9 is still fastest but they are still tweaking the game and think they can add a bit speed to DX10 yet. Another thing is that Lost Planet _is_ a pretty demanding game and the fps you have with your system is normal.

I can run the demo at the default settings at 49fps with a E6600, 2Gigs of Corsair XMS2 Dominator 6400 at 4-4-4-12 and a 8800GTX at 1600x1200, DirectX9 (I use WinXP Pro SP2)

hmmmm... you might benefit greatly from the price reductions next month, an E6420 or E6600 will look quite nice. Geez, stuck on that 7800GT with 20 pipes. You're in the middle... Something like an 8600GT is 32 shaders (4x8), and a 7950GT is 24 pipes. Nah, the 7800GT might do... hope you've o/c'd a bit. ;)

If your MoBo supports it, look into the E6600, and have 2 cores that can run 3.4 with o/c (easy!). You could sell that Presler and get good coin for it, reducing costs. One thing, you probably have the better heatsink, E6600 has a "heatstink" that usually gets tossed in favor of a copper HS.

But, yes, its most likely a crippled DEMO. lol
