I'm planning to overclock my E6320 near the 3 Ghz mark.
I want to know if I need to buy a better HSF than the retail one.
Here's my setup

E6320
P5B Dlx
X1950 Pro
Antec 900

I was thinking about reusing my Zalman 9500 that is currently cooling this computer but I'm not sure if it's a good idea. Actually my P4 3.0E Ghz (yeah those old Socket 478) is running at 48 idle - 58 load so I hesitate to reinstall the stock cooler cauz I fear it will get too hot.

So should I keep the retail cooler or take my current 9500 ? or should I buy a new one ?

Thx

At 3.0Ghz, u could just leave the stock cooler.

But It would probably be better to buy a 9500/9700 to cool it, but mostly to keep it quite because the stock cooler is noisy.

It would be even better if u were to buy the 9700 and overclock to 3.6Ghz.

I guess I'll eventually overclock it more over time to keep up with the games. And as you pointed out it the stock cooler is noisy.
So let's buy a new HSF ^_^

Btw do you know if the 7700 (all copper or alu+copper) are any good ?

Thx Track :)

P.S. I heard that ATI card were pretty loud. Is that the case with this one ? (X1950PRO). It's not really in the good section of the forum so if no one know just ignore this question ;)

The 7700 is fine for an OK overclock.

The X1950 Pro's stock cooler is not very loud, but u could just buy a VF900 and make it silent.

I have an e6320 at ~3GHz with a 7700 Alcu, temps are 32 idle, 55 load (dual prime95) - it's pretty quiet too - I can't hear it over my case fans

The vf900's a good choice too - dead silent using fan mate, and temps are 10 degrees C lower than stock on my 7950gt.

I'm new to this overclocking scene and am looking to build a new system. I keep seeing stuff online about who overclocked to what but no one tells exactly how. So, what are the voltage settings your mobo is set at for the 3GHz mark? I've seen someone talking about their E6320 being stable at 3.4GHz. Any ideas on what voltage settings are needed for that?
