Hello everybody, I want to connect to my neigbours router and vice versa.

My setup
Netgear router with adsl modem built in connected to internet
Desktop pc connected to router with cable
Laptop computer connected to router wirelessly
Both computers receive internet through router

Neigbours setup
Netgear router with adsl modem built in connected to internet
Desktop pc connected to router with cable
Laptop computer x2 connected to router wirelessly
All 3 computers receive internet through router

We want to connect to each others routers with our desktop pc's wirelessly so that we can share files between each other.
But both of us dont want each other to be able to access each others internet connections. As we need our internet connections to be shared through wireless for our laptops we cant just turn that feature off on our routers.

Can you explain if possible how to connect to each others routers wirelessly without sharing our individual internet connections with each other?

I'm not sure you can do what you want via the routers you have.

You could use your wireless adapters in ad-hoc mode to do a peer to peer network, by-passing the router completely.

The problem then is that you both have to be in ad-hoc mode at the same time. Hardly ad-hoc in the literal sense, really, if it has to be by arrangement.
