per the excellent guide by someone here for OC'ing the GA-965P mobo, they suggested setting the memory timings to 5-5-5-15

In playing with my system, my computer will let me run it on "auto" which puts the setting to 5-7-7-20

Which is better? All i know is that the lower the 1st one (CAS) the better.

Which one is less stress on the memory chips (heat, etc)?

Thanks

Lowering any of the memory timings tightens RAM function, not just the CAS LAT. Faster memory response is the result of lowering any timing. Increasing any of the memory timings including the CAS LAT loosens memory response time with the CPU. The first three (example 4-4-4) have the most effect. For the rest AUTO will do fine for practical use. HTH.
