Greetings,

I am having a kind of serious problem, and to my astonishment, I seem to be the only one who has that problem.

A few days ago, my old router broke down, so I had to buy a new one. I looked around, and the flashy D-Link DGL-4300 "Gaming Router" catched my eye.

I checked on a few internet forums etc. and found that it had gotten excellent ratings, so I bought it (150 $ is much, but oh well...)

However, I soon found out that this router is all but fine. It has numerous bugs, which make my computerlife hell.

First, the router has to restart with many changes in settings, this is rather normal. However, when I restart the router (and I have 3 diffrent PCs, all running diffrent operating systems), ALL computers start telling me, that there is no connection to the router, and Windows XP tells me that there is "limited or no connectivity". Since all 3 computers are doing this (not over wireless, but via LAN), I have to conclude, that the error is with the router.

Waiting a while changed nothing. I soon came to the understanding, that only unplugging and replugging (thus forcing it to restart) the router around 10 times helps resolve the problem. After the 10th time or something, the connection suddenly magically works again.

Well, this problem IS annoying, but I don't change options that often, so I could let that slide.

My main problem is, since I have been using this router, almost no internet connection has been holding longer than around 20 minutes. The router always simply disconnects, then get's a new IP, and reconnects.

Now this really is a problem. I cannot download, play online games, or do anything which would take longer than 15-30 minutes, since the connection will immediatly break down.

Since I have the same ISP since around 4 years, and such a problem has never occured, I also have to conclude that the router is again at fault.

I also tried playing with the settings a bit, like switching to dynamic and static IP, etc. In all cases the internet DID work, but not for long... (and this in turn costet me around 100 reboots of the router :S)

I checked on the internet, as usual when having problems, but everybody seems to be totaly happy with this router, exept me.

Does anyone maybe know what could cause this problem, and possibly how to resolve it?

Thanks in advance.

Yours, Ouguiya

Try resetting the router to the factory default settings, likely a button on the back that is possibly reset. Be wure you have the routes default log on and password. Then set up the network again including turning all but the hardwired computer until you have it working then turn on each wireless machine and run the Wireless Connection Wizard. If that doesn't work, RMA the router, could be bad. If it's not too late, could always return it and get something else. The ZyXEL x-550 works really well and easy to set up
