Ok i formatted a friends 80gig hdd on my vista ultimate pc then went back to his pc and tried to reinstall xp but im getting the "bootmgr missing" please restart! The reason why I put it on my pc in the 1st place was I couldnt reinstall over his xp as his disk is Sp1 and the version he was running was Sp2..tried uninstalling that but couldnt..could I use a floppy boot disk to get it going..I cant even boot from cd drive and thats set as 1st boot in bios..In the end I used my pc to install vista home on his disk and that installed fine..went back to his pc and still bootmgr press ctrl alt del to restart..Hes actually gonna buy a new hdd this week so the other option is to clean reinstall on that one..will that resolve the problem of bootmgr?...can somebody help please? Sorry if this thread is in the wrong place.
Sometimes when you format a disk on one windows OS it will not be recognized on another.
That happened to me with Windows 7, I formatted a hard drive there, but when I went back to XP, that drive was not "seen" by XP.
What I ended up doing is booting from an Ubuntu live CD and copying all the files to a different hard drive, then I formatted that hard drive in XP and transferred the files back.
