Upgrade isn't an option... you must clean install. The Vista setup will back up your current user files in a folder called Windows.old. However, it's still a really good idea to back everything up before proceeding. There is no upgrade path from 32 to 64-bit.

I see. I tried doing a clean install and vista won't start up, it just freezes.

You think it has something to do with my hardware? Should I format the drive? This is so time consuming.

And now I think I f'ed up my Blu ray drive. I get this I/O device error

Thanks for the reply.
