Ok, So I'm coming here as a last resort. I just built my new HTPC/Media Server. I'm using it to store all my pictures and and other media so that I can share it with the family. I set the machine up to go into suspend mode properly and it comes out of suspend mode properly when I use they keyboard and the mouse. Then I set it up to Wake On Lan without any problems. I set the NIC to "Allow this device to bring the computer out of standby." and to "Only allow management stations to bring the computer out of standby."

The computer wakes up when I try to connect to it over the network just fine.

Here's my problem.

If I reboot the machine and don't do anything with it, it will go into suspend mode properly after the right amount of time and stay in suspend mode until I wake it up by keyboard mouse or trying to access it via the network. All is well and good.

However, once I've brought the computer out of suspend via the network, it won't stay in suspend mode. It will go into suspend properly after the right amount of time but then somewhere between 5 and 10 minutes later it wakes up again. Even though I'm not trying to access it via the network.

The thing that has me confused is that this doesn't happen until I establish a connection to the HTPC from another machine. And when I try to shutdown the HTPC it tells me that there is another user connected even though I don't have any windows open that link to my HTPC's shares on any other machine. Is the problem that I'm not properly logging out of the shares on the HTPC when I close the windows on my other machines? If so how do I correct this? I'm trying to avoid having to set up a magic packet.

If anybody can give me some insight I would appreciate it. I've tried scouring the net and can't seem to find any references to this sort of problem. Though overall I haven't found any really good guides to troubleshooting WOL problems.

Thanks!
