Any ideas on how to correct this?? sure appreciate any help.

XP pro upgrade from 2000 pro...
when streaming media, such as a hulu movie, at full screen, sometimes the video freezes and the audio continues playing normally until I minimize the screen size, then the video resumes...OR
if streaming a radio station, the audio begins to loop (like a scratched record) the system locks up, a "physical memory dump" starts, until I reboot the computer.
have tried XP SPII with no updates at all, problems continue...
have tried XP SP II with updates, problems continue, but worse...
have tried XP updated to SPIII problems continue only worse.

have tried firefox, chrome, etc, browser does not seem to cause or isolate the problems,
have tried updating MOBO bios, Video drivers, processor drivers, audio drivers...no joy

Other than that, the computer otherwise works just dandy, and I rather like it, if I could just cure the streaming media crashes...
It's a new Asus MA479XTD EVO AMD socket 3, AMD phenom 945 X4 3 Ghz, Sapphire HD 4870 Dragon System W/ 4GB memory, Velociraptor drive.
and I thought I was building state of the art??? It's turned out to be a bug colony.
This never happened with my old intel P4 processor MOBO, even using the exact same software.

First rule out the video card as the problem by a stress test

Try running memtest on your RAM to make sure it's not a cache problem.

Thanks aford, I'm going to run that and see what transpires. Appreciate your kind replies. :ouch:

You're welcome.....Each of those tests should be ran for several hours for valid results.

Actually, the answer is two fold....
First , testing the memory and video card might be a good idea BUT
"stress test" which deliberately overheats the video card and memory is a very bad idea. The heat will dramatically shorten the life of the electronics components, and I don't recommend it. you are warned.

Second the memory cards were in the wrong slots, because the Asus motherboard instructions do not show the right slots to install them in.
But what it comes down to is another bad Asus motherboard, and I ordered a Gigabyte board to replace it. Seems that Asus has a problem with bunk chipsets.
hope the new board solves all the problems, but until its installed, the problems are "unresolved"

The problem WAS the Asus board
as soon as I installed a Gigabyte board all the problems were solved.
I did find out through the grapevine that there are a lot of problems with Asus motherboards.
There is an issue with the chipsets that Asus has been using. And there have been a lot of problems using the XP operating system. And there are Via audio problems, and a lot of LAN onboard problems, and bios setup problems, and streaming media issues, which I mentioned.
I should have used a Gigabyte board to start with, would have saved a lot of time and headaches.
If you want to run a quad processor and an ATI video card, buy a Gigabyte board. They are well made.

Any motherboard can have problems. Asus is right there with Gigabyte as the best motherboard manufacturer. I wouldn't blame Asus as a whole for a single issue.

Glad you got it worked out though.
