Hello All,

I am looking to set up a new oc'ed computer and I am looking into a new monitor as well. I currently have 19" Samsung SyncMaster930B. I would like to go up to 24" - 30", depending on picture quality and ability to keep up with the top games. This computer will be used for gaming and some trading that involves graphs and charts (work stuff).

So can anybody tell me if monitors of this size work well for gaming and if so which one is most recommended. Price isn't to much of a concern as long as I am getting a great monitor. Though I can say I would like to stay under $1,000.

Thanks for the input, I greatly appreciate it.

if you need a really big monitor for gaming, then the 30" Dell or Samsung is your choice, resolution is 2560x1600.
and yeah the problem is the price.

I highly recommend this new Dell 3007WFP-HC LCD. Had mine for over 7 months and love every bit of it. Gaming has never been the same with resolution as high as 2560x1600. A word of cautious: Its so huge it might freak you out.

Do not get a 30 incher because I currently have dells 30 inch monitor and games are beautiful but guess what I also have 2 2900 xt's crossfired and company of heroes dx10 with anti aliasing pulls in like 30 frames..... so the future isnt looking bright unless if I upgrade my video cards every generation. I personally would go with a dell 24 incher.

Little tough when getting over 22" inches. This is one of the best with a 2ms response time:

Basically, you have to research models and find out about refresh, "ghosting" and if they blur moving images. The one above, for example does not ghost or create blurs.

I have that one with the "S" panel and its very good. About the only thing I don't like is that it isn't really all that big. Its just a 19" model that has been stretched a couple inches wider. When I get some money together, I plan on getting a 24" screen.

I think you are looking at the 2 excellent monitor choices of today. 24" is the entry point to 1920x1200 which is key. 30" gives you 2560x1600. Both of these are ideally sized for the resolution to give a generous, squint free DPI. I have the 24" and it is terrific, but would probably like the extra space and detail on a 30" even better. But as someone mentioned, you are probably always going to be straining for frame rates and constantly need to upgrade to the latest, most expensive video cards to handle the high resolution. So while a 8800GTS 640 handles my games pretty will right now, I am afraid the upcoming DX10 generation stuff with all the eye candy will be suboptimal performance. Still, these monitors are amazing and worth it to me.

I'm using a 42 inch Westy and like it quite a bit. Resolution is fine for reading text and gaming and what not... 1920x1080p also means its easier on the video card.

A good way to buy monitor real estate is to get two of them. Consider two 24" monitors like the Samsung 244T. Play games on one, and watch the stocks/email/whatever on the other. A 8800gts-640 or better should have no problem driving them
