Hi guys, I'm presently putting together a new PC and I have a 600 Watts Ultra X-finity that I can use. Read fairly good reviews about the untit but was wondering if it is strong enough to run my rig...

My setup is :

1x ASUS P5N32-E SLI motherboard
2x 7900GTX OC (in SLI)
4x 512k DDR2 dimms Corsair XMS 5400C Pro ram
1x Raptor 10K rpm
1x Maxtor 7200 rpm
1x Optical drive (DVD) its IDE
1x 3.5 floppy
1x Chill TEC CPU cooler
5x 120mm fans
1x 250mm fans (top fan in an Antec 900 case)
1x Ultra X-Finity 600 Watts PSU
4x USB device drawing power from the PC (Track IR, X-52 HOTAS, CH Rudder pedals, Force Feedback headset)

Thanks for the advice guys...

P.S. the PSU that I can readily purchase around where I live are Thermaltake (up to 1200Watts), OCZ, Enermax Galaxy, Silvertone (up to 720 Watts) and the Corsairs.

Well after looking up eXtreme PSU Calculator v2.5 looks like I'll be OK... But because I don't won't thing to go south when I put it all together I ordered a Ultra X-3 1000Watts from tiger direct just to make sure... 8)

Bad choice! Poor PC... it was so young!

Well your no expert... so I'll take my chances

And for your education... It's rated as a tier 2 PSU here

Yeah, I know I am not an expert... never said I was. But the only power supply company I have a 100% faith in is PC Power & Cooling. Going with anything else to me is taking a chance. :)

What about OCZ.. they bought PC Power & Cooling..:p

Go with the Enermax 850, believe it or not, this is plenty of power and is a good price

Right now we just built a system a little over a month ago with two 8800GTXs (SLi) and a OC'ed Q6600 @ 3Ghz and it is running great! I am getting ready to build my own system now, glad I waited given the price drops coming in a few weeks, unfortunately my neighbor couldn't wait. Must be nice to have money to burn

So? As of right now, neither company is using the others internals to build their power supplies. So it stands, as of right now, I only really trust PC Power and Cooling. :)

I am with kronos76. For a high end system the Ultra PS is not my first choice. The Enermax 850 is a high end power supply you will not have any problems with.

Well, for one, I can get a tier one PC & Cooling 750Watt Silencer PSU for $100 less than the second tier Enermax. True, it is 100 watts less, but it meets my needs.

Interestingly, the PC $ Cooling 750 silencer is $50 less from their site than through NewEgg. Seem to be undercutting their outlets. I am glad though, got one at $169

Retraction, My silencer by Jonny's rating is a Tier 3, hmmm. It still works great

PS: MY brother, who is something of an expert (he does installation, service and maint on industrial strength UPS systems for corporation IT groups) says this thing is like rock solid and will buy none other now. I highly respect his position on this, so will stay with them.

Its not a bad PSU, thing about forums is that everyone has an opinion based on experience, much like your brother has his opinion about the current PSU. The best thing you can do is get input from everyone and then make the decision for yourself. In the end, you have to be happy with your purchase, and as such, need to make the decision. Happy shopping!
