I bought a Pentium d 945 oem on ebay for 100$. When I got the cpu today it was a d 950. The specs seem to be the same but I'm not sure if I should keep it or not? Any thoughts??

The 950 has all the features of the 945, plus it adds Intel Virtualization Technology. I would keep it. Although if your board can take a core2, I would send it back!

I'd say keep it, I can't find any differences either. At least not without digging more (which I can't, short on time). The benchmarks show the 950 ahead of the 940 a little ways, so it's probably still a bit ahead of the 945.

Why did you buy a Pentium D in June of 2007?

maybe his board does not support C2Ds. i got an ol' Gigabyte GA-G1975X. Bad ass board that I got for $85 Open Box from the Egg. Put my ol' D805 in and runs great at 3.4+

I have a ECS c19-a motherboard and the website only list pentium d as the highest cpu compatable for it. Not ready to update mobo yet.(I am running an 805 @3.4 now and was thinking of taking the 945/950 to over 4g.)

But if like in my position your board will only take Pentium D and AGP slot, then upgrade becomes pretty expensive to C2D taking into account PCI-E card, CPU, MB and possibly Memory too.
