for graphic design, animation and multimedia which is better, a system based on 2 opteron dual core processors or a sysstem based on 1 intel core 2 extreme? I use photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, 3D max, Lightwave, etc

I'd go for the q6600, which is expected to drop to about $266 on July 22nd, if demand isn't too high. Otherwise, go for the e6420.

I think they're both wunnerful options. Whatever you decide don't look back!

And the longer you wait the better (and cheaper) your options will be . . .

definitely get a a quad core intel (q6600), they will be cheaper and are beasts at the tasks you will do. if you feel like shelling out an extra 10 or 20, get the xeon version, the x3220
