Just a quick question

If I plug an unmanaged switch (hosting few connections) into another unmanaged switch (hosting many more connections) using 2 ports, both cat5, will switch <-> switch throughput effectively be 200mbps? or does this require a managed switch or more

Thanks

Throughput will remain 100mbit. They're auto mdi-x meaning that only one cable from a switch to connect to another switch. Connecting 2 cables between the switch can cause problems or won't have any effect, depending on the.. its called logical tree or something.

Spanning Tree Protocol

It prevents loops in a network where by data packets would be transmitted forever or until there hop count ran out.

Your best bet would be to run two gigibit switches. Plugging in two cables between the switches will only cause problems.
