Im looking to upgrade most of my system and have decided to go AM2.
I'm looking at buying an Athlon64 x2 6000 and a geforce 8800GTS.

I dont want to overclock.
I do want onboard sound.

I'm also looking to keep the cost of mobo down, since i'm spending a little more on other components.

cheers for any advice.

ASUS, MSI, Gigabyte, and EPOX all make good boards, personally I like ASUS and MSI. I also always get boards with firewire because I have a digital camcorder but more often than not they come with SLI, which I don't use. I also get boards with 3 PCI slots because most cards are still PCI, e.g., wireless,TV tuner, and sound cards. Suggest you go to newegg and do a power search for AM2 boards. Once you find a couple you're interested in, google reviews of the boards.

I think this is exactly what you're looking for:

The NF 500 Ultra chipset cheaps out on all the components you don't care about. MSI usually isn't a great overclocker (which won't matter to you), but is stable. The onboard sound stinks which is fine since you're going to use a sound card. Only possible problem is only 2 DDR2 slots.

Best of all, this is CHEEEAP at $56.99 - put that cash towards the sweet CPU and video card you're looking at.
