GEFORCE 8800 GTS 320MB??????????????????????????????????????

ill be upgrading from RADEON 1600PRO to GEFORCE 8800 GTS 320MB. it will come approximately on the 10th of july so i still have time to cancel the order.

why i got it?

1. so far, i generally feel overall that nvidia is better that ati nowadays.
2. the game stalker will like nvidia more than ati (''it the way its meant to be played'' in stalker menu lol).
3. gtx and ultra are too expensive thus forget them. 200 pounds is a good upgrade for the 8800 gts 320mb.
4. the 8800 gts 640mb always confused me, only like 50-100 pounds more. its good for wide screen but i dont have one so who cares. now the confusing part, the future games with the 8800 gts 320mb might stuggle when extra texture is enabled compared to 640 that will handle it. eg. call of duty 4 extra texture mode.

the 'big big big' question:

IS IT WORTH IT?

I second that, yes its worth it.

Yes it is worth getting the 640 version over the 320 as it will still rock on high resolutions with all the candy turned on.The 320 is lacking only the memory and as such it performs similarily to the 640 until you get into higher resolutions. That's when the extra memory really shows itself.Goodluck.

No, not really
June 28, 2007 4:24:28 PM

lol you guys are so cooooool thank you soooo much.

ok cancelled the order and ordered the 640mb.

i assume the 640mb will be fine for the below psu specs right? please tell me im right

plus the 640mg card requires one pci-e connector (same as the 320mb card) yes?

PSU SPECS:

Coolermaster iGreen 500W PSU ATX Form Factor 12V V2.2 / SSI standard EPS 12V V2.91

What resolution will you be running? Unless it's over 1920x1200 I don't really see the 640mb being necessary right now.

That's basically a meaningless marketing gimmick.

EDIT: for spelling...
June 28, 2007 5:47:14 PM

Well, maybe not. It might actually run better on nVidia cards (I dunno).
June 28, 2007 6:03:38 PM

confused as always, anyways i cancelled the 320mb and ordered the 640mb. thinking for the future!!

Not according to benchmark you provided. It shows the HD2900XT and the 8800GTS 640MB about the same, with the 8800GTS 320MB a bit behind.

look here, im a noob ok so take it easy. this is a paragraph from the site i shown you before (page 4).

''Though the 320 MB GeForce 8800 GTS was slower than the 640 MB GeForce 8800 GTS it was still much faster than the ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. With the Radeon HD 2900 XT we not only had to drop to 1280x1024 but we had to lower the rendering mode to “Objects Dynamic Lighting” instead of “Full Dynamic Lighting” that both GeForce 8800 GTS based video cards enjoyed. Dropping to this mode disables Sun Shadows and Grass Shadows and uses lightmaps instead of dynamic lights. We were however able to run at 8X AF thanks to the 512 MB framebuffer. The experience though was just not as good with this video card in S.T.A.L.K.E.R. ''

i hope that clears why i said nvidia cards are better than ati. oh and sorry for the long reply.
July 1, 2007 5:11:25 PM

That is ONE game. I can look up a benchmark in which the HD 2900XT rivals the 8800GTX in ONE game. You can't come to any conclusions based on just one game.

i am getting 8800 gts 640mb muhahahahahahahahahahaha
July 1, 2007 6:08:20 PM

1. No freakin way!
2. Rubbish
3. I agree!
4. I kinda agree
5. Yes, get the 640mb GTS.

In the end I completely agree.

Why even purchase something without doing some serious research ...
Is it worth it yes it's worth it in my opinion, but don't think that this card will carry you into the directx 10 age because it doesn't have the power to really do it alone ... If you want a really fast directx 9 this card is the choice ...

are you super human? so now you know whether i done research or not. i heard a number of times that point about 8800 series working good for dx9 but not as good enough for dx10. they say the hd 2900 series will be better in dx10 games than 8800 series but thats only speculation. another said, if u wanna play dx10, then its better to wait for the newer cards to be released.

with your great help and support, now i know its worth the upgrade (from radoen 1600pro to 8800 gts 640mb). i also know that at some point in the future esp when dx10 games come out then it might or might not lack or it will definetly lack. obviously, if a time comes were dx10 games require alot of power from gpu not suffient for the gpu's, theyll surely release a new card to cope with the requirments.

generally speaking, from what ive seen, the latest graphics cards at the time always deal fine with the current games. remember, the future is difficut to predict as always. for now thats a good buy. thank you guys so much as without you i would have got no where.

Please never put an inordinate amount of question marks in your title again. And, it would be wise not to flame/attack people who are taking their time to answer your question(s).

Take it easy, relax and know youve made a good choice. Ignore the not so pleasent and go for the good, youll learn more, and be less upset. After you get the card and its running, why not let us know how it plays?

merwan, if you want advice, the least you can do is write your messages properly.

never use all caps. its the same as shouting and considered rude.

dont put so many question marks in your posts - what are they for?

why flame people? what do you gain?

if you dont like people telling you shouldnt do those things, dont be surprised when a moderator bans you.

i always write properly unless someone acts up and this is what happened in this thread. why you lot care over many question marks, that really sounds odd. ohhhhhhh too many question marks oh nooooooooo. i flamed becuase they started. one by one mate, thats how i carry on with this life. oh so now another stupid rule, capital letters, hahahahah oh please.

btw, im nice guy in truth and i only start when someone starts.

Hey man, I wasn't trying to attack you or anything, I was just trying to help. I'm sorry if my post came off that way, I was just trying to prevent situations such as these from occurring: when you stray from the topic, usually people end up getting pissed. I'm not pissed, and I hope that you aren't either, but, again, I was just trying to help, and I'm sorry that it didn't seem that way or whatever. You don't have to defend yourself and you don't have to attack people, you can just totally ignore people who are retards, like jaydeejohn suggested. Oh well, sorry if you hate me, but hope you observed some of the workings of the forums.

Its not so much that you've done anything bad, I was just trying to prevent any possible badness in the future, just trying to help a bit. I totally understand how that can piss a person off and stuff, I remember when people would "help" me, and I guess I forgot about that when giving my oh-so-important "advice," but whatever. Good luck wit da cards. Tell us how the 640mb is when it comes!
