Win xp install

when installing windows xp it boots up the disk properly but it says that windows cant start Installation and doesn't see any hard drives. I have one hard drive in the computer its very old and only has 1.2 gigabytes. the thing is in bios mode in the HDD says its there. any help with this would be greatly appreciated
