I have 2 devices, DVD player and HDTV cable box, that have a digital audio
outputs, but my surround sound system only has one digital audio input(RCA
connection). Is their a cheap way to get both devices connected to the
surround system. Does it matter what type of cable I use for the digital
audio connection?

Thanks in advance,

Mark

The correct cable to use is a 75ohm coax (same type as video cables
with RCA connectors).
The digital audio signal is not as critical as analogue video so other
types of coax cables usually works.

As switch box I use manual boxes with RCA connectors of the type that
is sold as analogue sound signal selectors. Works fine for me.

Try this web site, you'll need two more cables, but it works well

I have also used combining of _optical_ digital audio using the above
device, but the OP only mentioned RCA, which is electrical.

Combining optical signals this way (without a switch) works if only
one of the two units is active at a time. (Some boxes keeps the
digital audio output active in standby.)
