Hello all,

A friend of mine told me her computer was messed up and I told her I'd take a look. It is running windows XP, and when it gets to the windows loading screen it sits for a few seconds then blue screens with this error.

STOP: 0x0000007e (0xc0000005, 0x8A487c21, 0xBACCEC44, 0xBACCE940)

There is no other description of the error as I have seen with some BSOD. I ran it through the built-in hardware test and memtest and both came out clean with no errors. I was able to successfully load an ubuntu live cd with seemingly no problems as well. Through google searches it seems that this error is from a cache bootup configuration problem. None of the forums I have looked up seem to give any way of fixing this. I have also tried running all three safe modes and the last working configuration, and every time I get the same BSOD.

Any suggestions? I know how to reload XP but I'd rather not do that until I have exhausted all other resources. If it does come to reformating, is there a way I can find what the CD key is?

Thanks for the help,

Andalf
