Hi Everyone / Anyone lol...

I cannot install a few games on my computer, the cdrw/dvd reads some of my games but not all, they are all new pc games I brought from EB games,
I have had them all running on a laptop, and some on a PC at my parents, (which is the exact same as the computer I have now, only difference is that one had a cdrom drive and mine is a CDRW /DVD rom)

Okay let me explain it, when I put in some games the CDRW/DVD drive starts to run, I can hear it, it tries to load the game twice and then
stops, I go to check the D: drive, that is where the cdrw/dvd is, I open the drive and it just has a blank screen where all the data should be,

Yet I can run other games (PC / DVD rom games) and the cdrw/dvd drive picks them up without a problem.

My Info:

Compaq Evo D510 sff Desktop PC
* Windows XP Pro, Version 2002, Service pack 3
* Pentium 4, 2.4 GHz CPU
* 512MB DDR RAM
* 40GB hard drive
* 64MB onboard Intel 845G video, DirectX 9.0
* CDRW / DVD ROM drive
* HL-DT-ST CDRW/DVD GCC-448IB

WHAT WONT READ:

The Sims Deluxe

Processor: PIII 500MHz
Ram: 128MB
Video card: 32MB, DirectX 7 compatible
CD/DVD: 8x speed

HD: 3.5GB space

Processor: PIII 1GHz
Ram: 256MB
Video card: 64MB, DirectX 9.0
CD Rom: 8x CD ROM drive
HD: 500MB space

WHAT DOES RUN / PLAY:

The video game: LOST
PC / DVD rom
OS: Windows Vista/ Windows XP
Processor: 2.4 GHZ, Intel Pentium 4
Ram: 1GB
Video card: 128MB, DirectX 9.0
DVD Rom: 4x DVD Rom drive
HD: 5GB space

CSI
PC / DVD rom
OS: Windows 98/ME/2000/XP
Processor: PIII 600MHz
Ram: 256MB
3d Card: 32MB, DirectX 9.0

HD: 650MB space

Its a new comp, havent installed any games at all yet.
Im thinking it may have to do with the cd/dvd drive speed????4x or 8x
Thats a guess really, please iff anyone can help, I would appreciate it,
thankyou :)

It's usually caused by a scratched disc. Try using a soft cloth with a few drops of water to clean the disc of smudges and dust.

the Sims 2 has 4 disks, none of them are recognised
the sims deluxe has 2 disks, niether of those are recognised
and the prison tycoon has 1 disk, which doesnt show up either,

but I put in CSI and WAHLAA there it shows up,

I doubt all 7 of these disks are scratched, plus I tried them out just now on another comp
they all run fine, so they are readable

The ones you listed that do play are DVDs. The ones that don't, appear to be CDs. Try playing some music CDs.
