Thanks to a graphics card upgrade I need a new PSU for my P180. Last time I bought Tagan 480W but the CPU power cable was only just long enough and that's taking a direct route over the mobo.

Does anyone know which PSUs have longer cables that would allow me to route around the mobo or even just a bit more slack to keep it neat?

What are the other Specs of your computer.

Does the Graphic card need another power hookup from PSU? Also will you be making any future upgrades. Plus how much do you have to spend on PSU.

Here are some PSU's that you should look at below.

Yoosty,

I am happy to give my specs but I have a good idea about how much power/current I need. What I don't know is which are a good physical match with the length of cables for a P180 - why did they put the PSU at the bottom?

CPU: E6600
Ram: 2GB Corsair DDR667
HD(s): 1 - 250GB Samsung
Motherboard: Gigabyte DS4
Graphic Card: 8800GTS 640MB OC

I will not be upgrading for at least a year and will never go SLI. My budget max is 90 UKP.

The Corsair & Tagan are Modular PSU's. All have long cables you wish for and are in the top tier category of PSU's List to have.

Hope this helps you out.

I have the P180 and an Enermax Liberty 620 and the (modular) cables reach what they need to.

You should look into cable extenders so you don't need to worry about cable length as much. I highly recommend modular for the P180 to help keep down the clutter in the lower compartment.

As for the Enermax, there are some bad reviews on Newegg with units failing ... I haven't had a problem with it. I got sucked in by the features for the price. (output, active PFC, etc.)

why did they put the PSU at the bottom?
There are a number of reasons.

- It allows for the top fan for the main chamber ... an excellent idea for heat dissipation.

- A front vent is required for the independent PSU/hard drive chamber to isolate its heat from the main chamber. If this vent was at the top, the front bays would have to be lowered from the preferred top of the case. (a matter of opinion, of course)

- There is probably some reduction of noise from it being mounted low rather than high, fitting with the other sound-dampening features of the case.
