Hello all...this is my first post here. I've read quite a bit of threads and still can't find an answer I can understand or one that pertains to me. It may be here...but I've missed it. I've already read wusy's post.
Just bought and built my system. Antec 900, 700w thermaltake toughpower, p5w dh deluxe, e6600 (L638F615...packed 5/11/07 I guess it's a 38F), OCZ platinum revision 2 2 gigs...4-4-4-15 pc6400 800mhz, sapphire radeon 1950 pro 512mb, zalman 9700nt, artic silver 5, raptor 150 for applications and a segate 320 for storage. No raid.
Bear in mind I'm extremely new...first build and first overclock, and like most newbie's...scared to do anything if in doubt.
I don't game....just video editing and dvd copying and burning....but would like a modest overclock on my cpu and memory that's not going to damage anything. From what I understand, if you leave the voltage alone (and keep the temps down) you won't hurt anything. I intend to leave the OC on all the time. I was just wanting maybe 2.93 or 3.0 or there abouts. If that's too much to leave on, then throw out a number that I should be trying for.
right now....in an airconditioned room my temps are 28-30 idle and about 35-38 load (using TAT), speed fan is telling me my "system" is 30 C and goes to about 37 on load. I take this to mean my motherboard temp?
My Ram is now set to pc-6400 and it's at it's correct timing of 4-4-4-15.
Here's my bios settings:

Qfan mode--pwm -------------mode correct?
Like I said....I'm not trying to see how far it will go....just a modest overclock on the cpu and memory. CPU-Z says it's set for 2:3 right now. I see alot of "change the memory and then set it for 1:1" I don't know how to change the ratio's either.
I know it's a pain to repeat yourselves over and over again...but I honestly did look and read ALOT of posts...everywhere first. Telling me what to set my settings on in the bios would be great, if anyone who has this board has the time.
To the right of the settings are my comments/questions.
Thanks in advance and I will definitely pass this along to other newbies.
I'll try and fill in as much as Im certain of.The rest can be filled out by someone who has more intimate knowledge of certain Bios settings.
So here goes.
AI tuning--manual --------------MANUAL
cpu Freq--266 ---------------333 for 3.0 YES (9 * 333 = 2.997)
Dram--DDR2-800 ---------------need to change to DDR2--667 FOR SYNC WITH FSB YES
performance mode--auto ---------------- PROBABLY DISABLED AS YOU WILL MAKE PERFORMANCE BY APPROPRIATE SETTINGS
PCI Express Freq--auto ----------------100 YES LOCK TO 100
PCI Clock syn. mode--auto ---------------33 or 33.3 YES 33.3
memory volts--2.00 ---------------- IS THIS YOUR MEM?http://www.ocztechnology.com/products/memory/ocz_ddr2_pc2_6400_platinum_revision_2
IF SO YOU CAN GO UP TO 2.2 AND SEE IF TIGHTER TIMINGS ARE ACHIEVABLE (start out with mem as stable (stock timings except for Mhz if you're certain that is the freq you want to end up with) as possible as to not limit yourself due to memory restrains)
cpu vcore volt---auto ------------SET THEM MANUALLY TO THE VALUE DETAILED IN THE OC GUIDE BY WUSY (I think 1.40) WHEN OC IS STABLE YOU CAN ALWAYS SHOOT FOR LOWER VOLTAGES
FSB Term. volts--auto --------------------------AS PER WUSY (1.40)
MCH Chipset volt.--auto ------------------------SET TO VALUE DESCRIBED IN WUSY'S GUIDE (1.55) AND LOWER LATER
ICH chipset volt.--FROM WHAT I UNDERSTAND THIS EQUALS SB (MCH) ONLY IT'S INTELS NAME FOR IT?
Digital home mode--disabled
______________________________________________
CPU config.
Modify ratio support--Disabled---------------WHEN ENABLED ALLOWS TO SET CPU MULTIPLIER
Microcode updation--Enable -------------------THIS ALLOWS MICROCODE FIXES TO BE LOADED AT BOOT (there's a whole discussion going on about it here: http://forumz.tomshardware.com/har [...] 2581.html) Max cpuid value limit--Disabled YES
Execute disable function--disabled ENABLE AFTER OC THIS PREVENTS CERTAIN MALWARE TO EXECUTE CODE IN MEMORY
enhanced ci control--disabled
cpu internal thermal control--auto-------------------I HAVE THIS ENABLED (if it's the same as thermal management) THIS THROTTLES CPU WHEN TEMPS ARE TO HIGH
virtualization tech.--enabled ----------------Disable? YES (if ever you want to use hardware acceleration for virtual OS: enable)
intel speed step tech.--enabled ---------------Disable? YES (some have it enabled after OC but it's not guaranteed to be stable)
________________________________________________
Chipset
Configure Dram timing by SPD--disabled ---------------right? YES SET MANUAL TIMINGS TO FACTORY STANDARDS, WHEN OC OF CPU IS STABLE PROCEED WITH MEM
(timing numbers are the correct ones....4-4-4-15 and the rest are at default)
write recovery time--4 PROBABLY Dram ECC mode--disabled YES
Hyperpath 3--auto --------------------Disable? NOT SURE
Dram-throttling threshold--auto ---------Not sure what to set it to POST VALUES FOR THIS FOR CLARIFICATION
Memory remap feature---disabled NOT SURE
Peg buffer length--auto ---------------Have no idea about any of these

Had some questions about what to disable here....
Qfan control--enabled -------------------Disable? I BELIEVE Qfan LOWERS FAN ROTATIONAL SPEED WHEN TEMPS ARE LOW TO KEEP NOISE DOWN IF YOUR TEMPS ARE OK YOU COULD LEAVE THIS ON
Qfan mode--pwm -------------mode correct?
Please dont take offense to the CAPS as I thought it would be clearer to see where I answered. If anyone sees any problem with my answers please correct them as I'm by no means holy . Just did not want the OP's hard work go to waste so thought I'd get things started.
To not hurt anything, set all voltages to minimum:
CPU default = 1.325v
FSB and the rest voltages to the lowest available value
The remaining like morerevs said
Don't put voltages on auto, the mb will bump them
All these are on the guides well explained, and no need to "UP" because you couldn't wait 24h for an answer
By the way, 1.40v is a 5% increase, so in the margins of Intel recommandations of 10%, it could get you a better overclock. On new chips, getting 3GHz without some juice could be hard
Set up your board, fix voltages and frequencies on a manual setting, loosen your memory settings, test stability. If not stable: two options only: lower FSB or increase vcore.
Good luck
The guidlines setout above look right.
U dont have to worry about all the settings.
My chip is happy with 1.35v @ 3150, so u might get away with 3000mhz at or just a slight voltage bump.
dissable that jmicron chip if not using it.
Dont forget the change the RAM divider after overclock.
PC-6400 runs at 800mhz
The mobo shows the current mzh in the RAM settings.
Anything under 850 shout be fine.
