Everything was looking good till I say you put down Rosewill for your Power Supply. I immediately stopped and wrote this. I personally never had a Rosewill PSU. I probably never will. And I never have heard anything good from people who did have them. So beware! At the time I read the reviews from Newegg, there were only three responses for it. Thats either good or bad. Good meaning if it is a brand new product from Rosewill. Bad meaning it has been out for sometime and their reputation for PSU's have gotten around. I would re-evaluate your PSU brand choice.

For the MOBO, why not go for a new P35 chipset?

Are you doing some professional work with music? If not, then I would drop the Sound Card. Onboard sound will do just fine. I would re-invest that money into some excellent speakers or headphones.

Judging by your RAM and GPU selection, it looks like you will be trying some OCing (at least they can do some great OCing). If so then don't forget to get some artic silver 5 and after market cooling for your CPU.

What about your case?

any midtower case should be fine for your comp so long as it is atx, which almost all are now

-Ditch that PSU and get a better one.

-Do you REALLY need that sound card?

-Consider a new P35 mobo.

-If you're overclocking, get an aftermarket CPU heatsink

-Get a backup drive. If that big one goes down, you are SCREWED. Seriously, backup is your best friend. Consider getting 2 - 250 gig drives instead of budget is an issue. You won't regret it, trust me....been there, done that, fried a couple drives, lost irreplaceable data, learned my lesson. BACKUP DRIVE.

As others have said Rosewell isn't really known for their PSU's. Also, if your not in a hurry you could wait for the Intel price cuts on July 22nd.

You don't mention the monitor. Since it is what you experience the whole system through, I always put that at the top of my list.

thanks for all the replies,

the psu i picked was because i was previously looking at a
Rosewill RP550V2-D-SL 550W SLI Ready-ATX 12V V2.01 Power Supply
http://www.newegg.com/product/prod [...] 6817182030
and it had alot of good reviews, but i thought i'd need a little bit more power, but again the only reason i thought this was because of the WikiHow on building a comp and it recommended atleast 600+w for anything like vidseo editing(my main purpose for getting the comp) and intense gaming (a plus to having the comp) so i figured that psu had such nice reviews, their other products should be just as good, so i looked for a more powerful psu, i figured it hadn't had so many reviews, since it was a supposedly new product, but thanks for the psu tip, are their any that any of you would recommend

i didn't pick a p35 because, again, i am new to the computer building market, and i was so afraid my parts wouldn't match up that i made sure to stick to one company as muvch as i could, so my video card ended up being a GeForce and the MoBo a nForce, i wasn't too sure if anything else would work with the two, again, i just got into looking at parts the end of May, if that sounds silly, i'm sory

the sound card deals a bit with video editing being my main goal with this comp. I'm hoping to use this comp to make movies that seem pro, on a consumer budget, thing is tho, royalty free muic is a little pricier than i'd like it to be, and i know a couple of people interested in making their own music, who knows, maybe if they come out with a cd, i can make all the money for the card back and more, but really it's just because i'm not sure what restrictions copyright laws do and do not impose, so i'm going to just avoid them all together

the monitor didn't matter too much to me as long as it was decent enough

another question i had was, i know that you have to buy and install the OS yourself, but does that mean when i'm done, i'm going to have a computer that looks and works nicely, but can't do anything, what i mean is, microsoft office wouldn't be included in any of their OS's and i'd probably have to buy office as well as the OS

Reply to Kohm

Yes, when you install the OS, you pretty much just get the OS. If you want Word, Excel, etc. you will have to buy the Microsoft Office suite.

another question, what's the difference between a three pack or a single pack for an os

i.e.

Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate for System Builders Single Pack DVD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6832116215

and

Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate for System Builders 3 Pack DVD
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Prod [...] 6832116216

It looks to me as if you get three OEM licences for the $574 and one licence for $194.

OEM is for system builders who would sometimes require more than one licence.

You can use the free OpenOffice from openoffice.org instead of MS Office.
