QAM on Samsung TX-P2675WH

I bought a Sammy TX-P2675WH recently and found that it did not have QAM
tuner "activated", although from the on-line manual at samsung.com
could see that it used to have that capability. riffjim4069 in this
group was kind enough to send Samsung QAM firmware kit files to me. I
have tried the upgrade multiple times with the same result: a fairly
hosed set, with no access to menus and a picture that is "doubled". A
user on epinions (http://tinyurl.com/4crog)
seems to have had a similar experience with the upgrade of a recently
purchased set. The Samsung folks I have been able to reach through
support are clueless. Does anyone have experience with this?

I will post to this thread with the output from the diagnostics port I
am getting.

TIA...

printed.

Comparing to the archived dump at http://tinyurl.com/4gcb8, I see my
dump has the ErrPrint lines, but another troubling difference is mine
has

m_v_coef(148433124) = ms_v_size(144) * 256 / Disp_v_size(401)

while the "good" dump has

m_v_coef(148433124) = ms_v_size(720) * 256 / Disp_v_size(540)

The latter parameters 720 and 540 seem more likely to be valid than the
144 and 401 that mine has. Perhaps the firmware my set started with had
different locations for some NVRAM parameters and is now plugging bad
values into the code that is running.

Who knew TV could be so fun?

I recently (two weeks ago) upgraded the software (called firmware) in a
Samsung that got out of the factory with non-working QAM support. I
followed the instructions and it works.

As you can see, the firmware upgrade did not work for me. I am
wondering whether we did the same upgrade.

1. How old is the TV? Mine had a manufacture date of Nov 2004

2. How did you obtain the firmware? Samsung was not at all helpful to
me, so I obtained it from another consumer.

3. Did the CD contain files with sizes like the following?

3,011,072 QAM Firmware Upgrade Instructions.doc
1,409,066 SDN.EXE
34 SDOWN.BAT
1,829,261 T_EMPRNUS1_2032.z

TIA

FYI, I loaded recent firmware onto my set to restore it to working
order, but without QAM, so at least I can use it.

i am getting the tech to come out as soon as they get the cable and CD.
Is there any special setup of the COM port?

How did you get hold of the tech? Through Samsung? How new is your
TV?

A guy who is far more of a geek than me has the same set and used some
device from work (he does embedded systems) to flash me with the
contents of the flash on his TV.

The .bat file on the CD has command line arguments to the actually
transfer app that sets it to 115200,8,N,1. When I have hooked up my PC
to see what spills out this port, I used hyperterm and also set flow
control to xon/xoff.

i bought the tv october 2004. I called the local repair shop listed on
samsung's website and asked about the update. They found the bulliten
and are ordering the cable and cd. Then they are supposed to call me
back to set up an appointment.

The key is that you have to turn off the tv unplug it and then plug in the
mini plug connected to the computer. The program has to be running in the
computer then you plug the tv back in, do not turn it on. The update
happens automatically and when the program is finished the tv turns on all
fixed. If you leave the program running you will get a running dialog on
the inner workings of the TV.
