I should start by saying I'm relatively uninformed in regard to networking.
Anyway, I was helping a friend who isn't good with computers at all. Along my way I stumbled upon their Network Connection Details to find that both their DNS and DHCP servers were different from their physical IP address (their computer is behind a router). I assumed their DNS and DHCP should start with the same 192.168 of their router? All of my computers, and most any regular home computer I could think of all have very similar, if not the same, DNS/DHCP/IP addresses. So I became concerned because they had a lot spyware (albeit it was relatively all benign).
So, is there any cause for concern due to the different DNS/DHCP addresses compared to the IP? Should I reset the DNS/DHCP back to the router's 192.168.1.1? If so how would I go about doing that. From the command prompt I already tried a release and renew with no luck. I also reset the router.
Thanks for the reply Grumpy. I don't have access to their computer right now. I will talk to them and see if they can take a proper screen shot to send to me so I can give you all the relevant data. I'll probably have some info by Sunday.
Thanks again.

dhcp ip address in most cases is the router ip address, or another address on the network (meaning a 192.168.x.x, depending on how its set up). the dns will be completely different so dont worry about that one.
