Changing an old machine's OS from WIN2k to WIN XP and keeping the same HDD's.

The HDD that the OS on it, is multi-partitioned:
OS on "C"
PROGRAMS on "D"
DATA on partitions "E" thru ?...

(I have Partition Magic 8.0 software)

Can I format the "OS" and "PROGRAMS" partitions... leaving the "DATA" partitions undisturbed...

Then, re-install the OS and PROGRAMS... and have the OS "see" the data partitions?

or,

Do I have to format the WHOLE drive completely, and re-partition it?

Thanks.

You can format the OS and Programs partitions without format the Data partition.

Yup. ^^
You may wish to backup your data drive to an external HDD or something first, just incase something goes horribly wrong, but your data should be 99% safe, I have a very similar set-up and have reformatted two or three times with no problems.
