E6600 / 965p-DS3P Temperature question

I have my e6600 overclocked to 3.2GHz by setting the fsb to 400 and the multiplier to 8, to get a ration 1:1. No voltage changed anywhere.

Stock Cooling, with 2 fan's at the side (sucking air in) and one at the back (exhaust).

Room: 26C
Idle: 36C
100% Load, both cores (TAT): 71C after about 30 seconds

Are this temperatures normal or are they too high?

For me that would be too hot. Mine runs 50 c at load and I'd still like it to run cooler :D Get an aftermarket cooler, it seems your CPU is worth it if you didn't need to change voltages.

I checked the HSF, but all is properly installed.
The jump from 36 to 71 is what concerned me a little.
Or is this just normal?

As such, the jump in temp is normal going from idle to 100% load seeing as you are OC-ing on stock cooler. However normal is not good in this case as 70 c is just too hot to run, that's why I recommended getting an aftermarket cooler, especially if you're going to stick with the OC.

I did, I installed a Zalman 9500, the idle is now 34 and load 68...
STILL too hot.
Get a better aftermarket cooler. I suggest the Tuniq Tower or Thermalright Ultra 120 Extreme.. thoses temps are still strangely high though... It may be a problem with badly applied thermal paste.

Check your default voltage. Sometimes these motherboards like to crank up the voltage when on default. Should be some where around 1.30.

Motherboard: EVGA T1 680i
CPU: E6600 L646G494 @ 3.7Ghz. 1:1 Ratio Linked & Synced Voltage 1.44 Load Temp 45c
Idle Temp. 25c
SPP:1.45volts, MCP: 1.50volts
Memory: Mushkin PC2 8000 2gig's 4-5-4-11, 2T Voltage 2.1
Swiftech Water Cooling H20-220
Video: One EVGA 8800GTS 320MB

70 - 75C is hot in TAT.

guides suggest that up to 65C is acceptable.

I agree with the last post, if you leave the voltage on auto on asus boards at least it will increase them with increasing FSB. sometimes far higher than required. I think about 1.3 - 1.4V is needed for that speed.

I had that problem and it was that my heat sink wasn't correctly installed, you really need to press it a little hard.

VCore is default 1.3500, reported also by test programs.
If I set this lower then default, it is unstable and shut down after a minute.

I reseated the HS, applied new paste, no change at all...

out of interest you say that the system is unstable if the voltage is any lower. Is the system prime stable at that voltage? I found that my C2D required an extra 0.05V to pass prime 95. Probs wont help your heat situation.

Yes, its stable at the default vcore of 1.35.
Anything below and it will reboot sooner or later.
Anything above only increased the temps, but still runs stable.

It might be the casing (too small maybe), no idea.
