Instructions for HP F2110 all in one printer

Help! I am new at learning how to use powerpoint. Am having difficulty getting my all in one HPF2110 printer to scan a book cover and succeeding page for a presentation due on Monday. I depress "scan" on printer and NOTHING happens except the "on" lights blinks. How can I resolve this, scan a photo and transfer that photo for use in powerpoint presentation slides? Also, I have student version of Powerpoint and can't locate options for various ways to fade in and out, etc for slides. Thank you for any help you can provide!
