Notebook processor upgrade possibilities

I am looking to upgrade the processor on a notebook. I'm pretty experienced in the desktop arena but was wondering if anyone could shed some light on notebook processors. So far I gathered that the socket must be the same and the voltage and wattage be similiar. So my questions are:

1. Are the physical size (particularly the height) of notebook processors all the same?

2. Does the front bus speed of the new processor have to be the same as the old processor?

3. What other factors should be considered?

The notebook in question is a Gateway MT3705 which has a Intel Pentium Dual Core T2060. I was looking at upgrading to either a Core Duo or a Core 2 Duo. Thanks.

Well since you already have a Core Duo in it, you should be able to upgrade to anything in the Core Duo line (Yonah Core) and you might be able to upgrade to Core 2 Duo (Merom). Check Gateway support docs, you should be able to find something that will say what CPU's you can run. Another issue you might have is heat. The T2060 is a pretty low end processor. Going faster means more heat obviously so you'd need to find out if your notebooks cooling system can handle it. You can upgrade depending on the laptop model with any other Core Duo or Core 2 Duo that supports a 945 Chipset but not with a new Core 2 Duo with FSB 800 MHz with works only with the new Santa Rosa platform 965 Chipset

I don't think it has the intel chipset at all. Here are the entire specs for my motherboard according to Gateway's website. My biggest concern is the front bus speed unless the chipsets are an issue... The motherboard states 533Mhz but the processors I've looked at for both the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo line are all 667Mhz or 800Mhz. Does anyone know if this would matter much? Also what should I look at to make sure the new processor won't run much hotter and drain battery life?

I did some looking. It appears it does infact use the ATI Radeon Xpress 200M for Intel chipset. AMD/ATI states the supported processors are

Intel ® Pentium® M, Intel Celeron®, Celeron® M and Intel Pentium® 4 processors

That T2060 is an odd processor. Notebookreview has a headline saying it appears to be a stripped down Core Duo T2050, however those cpu specs from AMD make it seem like it could be like a Mobile Pentium D. I'm clueless as to what you might be able to do upgradewise..........
