Hi

I have a mediacenter in my bedroom, and the noise is driving me nuts.

I bought it retail, and have not made any modifications so far.

I have opened it up, and determined that the noise comes from the CPU-cooler. Here is a couple of pictures of it:

I believe the CPU is an AMD Athlon64 2800+, if I remember correctly (about 1 year old).

As you can tell from the pictures, I have very little room to replace the CPU-cooler. There is around 120mm across and 30mm height.

Can anybody recommend a good and very, very quiet replacement? It does not have to be cheap.

You're going to be hard pressed to find any better HSF units which only stand 30mm high.

It looks like you've got a NORTHQ 3392 CPU cooler on there which is especially made for media center PC's. It's 60mm fan runs at 2800 rpm, so i'd bet it it's bloody loud.

Your best bet is to download SpeedFan and manually control the fan speed to keep the noise down.

Here's a link to where you can download speedfan:

I hope this helps.
