Asus A7N8X deluxe MB
AMD 2400+
2 gigs of pc3200 Ram
Radeon 9800 Video Card
Win XP pro
Maxtor 80 gig HDD
I just upgraded to 2 gigs of ram, but I am still seing a lot of performance issues with some of the newer games out there. I started looking into upgrading my video card, but I am really out of the loop on whats what. Any reccomendations as far as what to go with? It looks like PCIexpress is the way to go, but honestly, I dont even know if my motherboard supports that. Anyways, any help would be great. Budget of about $300.00 Thanks for any input guys.
Normally i would say 1950 pro/xt but in your case i would think the cpu may hold it back a bit.
I can tell you from experiance that an upgrsde to a 7600gt would be a good move it is good on power which the 1950 isnt and would let you play most things at mid/high settings.
Do you know what psu you have.
someone around here has a REAL $300 core2duo build, check that out, maybe swap the board suggested in the build for a asrock dualvsta and put the 9800in there, also flash your 9800 to an xt if if isn't already
You'll be running AGP,not PCI-express so your options although somewhat good are limited.I would go with the X1950PRO for AGP.But even then, your cpu is likely to hamper it.In all honesty, you should consider a full upgrade.New cpu/memory/video card/and motherboard. You'll likely need a new power suply as well.Just make sure the PSU is a good quality name brand that has adequit amps on the 12volt rails.Goodluck.
