Hi,
I saw this one in Costco yesterday, $2899 with the stand. The price
is attractive and the picture looks sharp. There are some HD program
from the Dish Network.
I wonder if someone has more experice on this set. Currently I use
Dish Network normal service, no HD program and do not envision to
subscribe soon. I see some DVD, but not a lot. So basically I use TV
for non-HD channels.
My question is : how this set does when it receives non-HD signal
over Dish? I am told that for this case such large size TV does even
worse than normal non-HD ready TV, for example my 25' Sharp CRT tv. Is
this true?
I am not so hot on the HD TV, but this Sony one really looks nice.

I have a Oct '03 vintage 42 WE610. I ran the set for 3 months with only SD
and DVD's until getting HD cable in Jan '04. When auditioning my finalists,
I chose the GWIII over the Sammy DLP since, in my tests, the GWIII handled
SD signals better. These 2 were my finalists precisely for the no-burn-in. I
prefer OAR to stretch/zoom any day. For the mean time, feeding the video
with s-video connectors should be fine once you get used to the dramatic
increase in screen size. It certainly worked for my D* box well enough.
YMMV

I had the SONY 42 610 for about 10 months...I thought it did a great job
with SD on DirecTV. Problems was I got these "spots", a greenish halo kind
of half-dollar shape spots that would appear only when a dark scene was
projected, i.e. in between commercials. The store sent a tech guy out to
check it out...he said dirt/dust/styrofoam packing material? may be on lens.
Screw this...I got it exchanged for the SONY 42 655..basically the same set.
Three months into the new set, I get another spot on the screen. Now I
pissed! I have to call the store again to get this problem corrected. BTW, I
DO love this set, believe it or not. I was in between the SONY and the
Hitachi LCD rear proj. I couldn't tell which was better. I went with the
SONY because, at the time, it had a 42" and Hitachi did not.
