Improper CPU seating cause for 40 C Idle temp for C2D E6600?

I have a computer with a core2duo E6600 at stock speeds and the temps are unusually high at idle (40 C) and go up to about 45 C at load, could the CPU be improperly seated? I am using AS5 thermal paste and a cooler master Hyper TX, I also have another computer with a E4300 which is using same paste/cooler and is at 24-26 idle. What could be wrong? It never crashes or anything, I set the CPU fan to constantly spin at @ 1600 RPM (max speed with Intel Desktop Control center for that fan) (mobo is a D975XBx2)

Unlikely that the HSF is improperly seated because usually when this is the case machine shots off immediately because of overheating

Are you sure that the temp reports are correct?

If you touch the CPU at a temp of 45 degrees it will feel pretty hot.

I duno if my temp reading are wrong, but on my laptop my Centrino Duo idles at about 43, and under load it goes to 69, so it might just be how it is, but check it again just incase.

@ hun your fine with your laptop bc they have very poor cooling

@ legge your as5 just needs to set up takes about a month of power cycles to have the paste set up you'll see about a 10c drop

... My E4300 runs at 18-20c on a Via chipset board. I have the Speed Step enabled as well.

Man I am jealous, even at everything stock, my E4300 on a eVGA 680i, TAT reports 40C~44C at idle and 1.8GHz :-(.

I have gone insane looking at improving that. Just bought MX-1 to use with my Cooler Master Hyper TX, waiting for the thing to cycle to see if it improves. I already gone and bought a Zalman 9700 NT to replace the Hyper TX if thing dont improve. I cant even walk by any fan, like on a building, without thinking about it ;-)

[edit] wait a sec, how can you be at 18C!!?!? is your room inside a fridge?
Or are you running some sort of exotic cooling?
