I am looking at getting a quad core soon and I am looking at how much the unlocked multipliers of the qx6700 boost the overclocking capabilities compared to the q6600 and the forthcoming q6700, as I can pick up a qx6700 at about 50 dollars more than the q6700 will be selling at on July 22nd.

Depending on the cooling solution, I'd think overclocking would be the similar on both systems, although overclocking would be easier with the QX6700 as you could simply increase the multiplier. Only at moments where you really hit the maximum for the FSB would the QX6700 be a much better overclocker and you'd need an exotic cooling solution at this point.

So in your opinion should I spend an extra 50 bucks on a open box qx6700 or wait 20 days and get a q6700?
EDIT: Also is the same true for the x6800 compared to the e6700?

I'd wait and get the Q6700, unless you want to try overclocking to the limit, you are experienced at overclocking, and you can afford $400 or more for a *quality* liquid cooling solution. Get a q6700, a Thermalright Ultra-120, use the rest of the cash to get a better video card. Just my 2 cents...

Not at all; I'd say you're better off saving the money on a Q6600 or a Q6700. I was just saying how the QX6700 technically has a higher maximum overclock, but to really see the rewards you'd have to be using phase change cooling. With the money you save on a Q6600 or Q6700 you can buy a faster videocard, or even a second one.

Oh yeah, I should have mentioned. The best bang for the buck will be the Q6600. The Q6700 is a waste (10% more speed, twice the price) compared to the Q6600.

As was already said get the Q6600. Pair the Q6600 with a P35 mobo with DDR2 ram. Why anyone would buy a QX6700 that is open box is beyond me. Who returned it? Why did they return it? What did they do to it while they had it? Get the new CPU and don't wonder what kind of torture/ mishandling it has been through.

Get an q6600 with a P35 mobo like the ASUS P5K Deluxe or even cheaper gigabyte DS4. These mobos should overclock very nice that cpu. I dont think that any small difference gained in ocing an proc is justified by a 2x price.
If you like to throw away money then buy an q6700.

You will probably upgrade to Penryn when it gets out cos these quads spit fire.
