Hey guys,

I posted here before but they told me to wait for all the sales in July. Well, it's July, and I need help!

I have about $800 to build a gaming computer. I want to mainly play first person shooters competitively.

So, could you guys help me pick out some parts? I think I found a some parts:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130056

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819115013

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813128012

I looked for some HDD's, but the reviews said "It's good but its LOUD" and I don't want a noisy HDD. Especially that ringing noise. And RAM also, I'm lost when it comes to that.

So could you guys lead me in the right direction? I need help from the pros. Thanks in advance. 8)

Well, it looks like you have the beginning parts for a good entry level competitive computer.

For memory I use this:
Corsair XMS2 6400C4
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145034
$91.00 AR
(Good timings, can boot at low voltage on MB that need it, strong overclock also)

For hard drives I use:
WD Raptor 150GB
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136012
$169.99 AR
(Very fast, loads you into games a lot quicker, noise is negotiable since your GPU will always be louder anyways, worth the price because it will last)

If you are serious about FPS games you need to spend some cash also in a good mouse like a logitech G5 mouse, or a razor mouse (definately worth the price), keyboards aren't so important in my opinion, just don't get a crappy wireless one. Of course there is always a disclaimer that your video card will probably not be enough coming into the next generation of video games like crysis so keep that in mind. And don't forget a good power supply, you'll want at least 500 watt. Hope that helps you out!

I have a G5 already. I am not really into dx10 games yet, i just need to play WarRock flawlessly at the highest fps possible. I am REALLY competitive at that game.

thanks for those items man, i really appreciate it.

how much moeny is ideal for 500wat, i see a range of prices from $20 to $300.

Don't buy a Raptor, too much, too loud and not that fast for most users, it will boot up 5 seconds faster and if you access the HDD ALL the time, it will minus 10% to your times. You did not say what you were using the HDDs for, I would go for one 320 to 500 Gig, If you like to break up the OS and the DATA storage then get a smaller drive for the OS (160).

You can find a decent ~500 watt for $60 or so. I like FCP in that range, other like the Corsair and Antec.

Looks great, but If i were you I would try to get some extra cash together and get this This 6800GTS

It will be worth the extra money and you can wait at least 2 years before having to upgrade your v-card if you get it.

If you absolutely cannot afford it, your setup seems good to go. That is assuming you already have a DVD drive. You don't mention if you do or not and it will be a necessity. Just reminding you in case you overlooked it.

Case has too much 'bling' factor for my tastes... Get something sensible, one of the antec p series, or the CM stacker series. Others will have different opinions, but cool systems are better than the 'cool factor' of 'bling'.

Just my 2p...

The E6400 isn't very good. Get an E4300 and overclock it to 1066FSB (more if you can afford a decent aftermarket HSF). The money saved should go towards an 8800GTS 320MB.
