I have a system on the way, and I'd like to know what I should overclock and maybe how to do so. I don't want to shorten the life of my system dramatically. So can you point me to some safe overclocks of the following system? It's air cooled.

Hi there.

I built my system last week I have an E6600 on a P35C-DS3R, I went for a thermalright ultra 120 extreme as I wanted a nice quiet CPU cooler :)

You should be able to overclock to 3.0 GHZ with absolutely no work :) The motherboard will overvolt your CPU slightly, ou should be able to lower the voltage to the minimum required for stable operation, but the auto settings are OK :)

Easy way to have a 25% increase in clock speed :)

Thats where I am at the minute.

I was thinking of dropping my multiplier to 8 and setting the FSB to 400MHZ and running synchronously at 3.2GHZ.

Does this sound like a good plan?

Why is that then?

I would have thought that running at 3.2GHz and synchronous memory would be a good solid overclock without going crazy. I like the idea of synchronous memory as it makes me think it will all run smoother :)

With a reasonable cooler and a slight increase in Vcore this should be OK. My vCore was set by the motherboard and has been stable for 3 weeks of pretty intensive use!

My memory will run to about 900MHz so I have some leeway to overclock some more, If I want to go mad I can always put the multoplier up to 9 again.

I am trying for the optimum, not the maximum as my PC runs most of the time as a media server.

Just how far do you want to go?
