Long story short:

I had two 512Mb sticks in my computer, making 1GB (duh). I bought another 1GB stick, plugged it in to my computer, and now windows not only doesn't recognize the new slot, it only recognizes one of the previous ones! So now i only have 512Mb :S

Windows tells me i have only that, however CPU-Z recognizes the full 2048MB of memory and each individual slot. Strange huh?

What could this be? Help me out!

Thanks in advice for your time :)

It's always good to list the model numbers of *every* component in your system, including stuff like the PS and cpu cooler and case, since our psychic detection doesn't work so well...

My guess is socket 939 dual channel MOBO and not a VIA chipset. Most likely an Intel based board would run all that single channel. Purely guessing just based on the symptoms.

Im sorry i didn't think it would be essential. I have a Gygabite mobo (not sure what specific model it is), Socket 775 Pentium D 830, The RAM ive already told you about, its DDR2. Also got a 450Watt Tagan U15 PSU, Radeon X1900XT graphics...anything else?

It appears that your MOBO does not like 3 DIMMs. If it is like most others I have seen under the same circumstances. They will run 1,2, or 4 DIMMs but not 3. The memory controller does not like to try to run single channel and dual channel at the same time and for some reason will not switch to single channel with 3 DIMMs.

put your 1gb in your first slot in the first channel, put the other 2 in the other dual channel slot, should work with your mobo, i have no idea why windows isn't picking it though.

Fixed! What i did was put the 1GB stick in the first slot, and the two 512's in the 2nd and 4th slot. That made it work! No idea why though...
