Second-generation Stars processors introduce AMD’s 45nm fabrication process. AMD plans to make a quick move to 45nm. The entire product lineup will move to 45nm within 2H’2008, unlike the move to 65nm, which began Q4’2006 and is still in process.
Many has said that AMD can not do it, because of the prblems with 65nm. I think that fast movement to 45 nm may be their chance.
AMD can not compete with Intel with 65 nm, because Intel itself is moving to 45 nm. So it may be AMDs best chance to try narrow the poduction cap...
Only time will tell...
I really hope for the best. We need at least two cpu manufacturer, as well as gpu manufacturer. I don't wan back the days of monopoly and high prices... (like we see now in the Prices of Wista...)
Sorry, dont take offense, Im not poking at yout. Only poking at AMDs execution as of late. Feels as though AMD has put out more plans and roadmaps over the past 12 months than new SKUs. If I had a CPU for every plan that didnt live up to the hype, or didnt make the deadline during 2006/2007, I could build my own super computer.
Ehh I will be more surprised if it isn't delayed. But we can always hope that this is the one . And at least we have been hearing some positive news from AMD lately.
It's nice to see they are making an effort to catch up,I just hope they can keep to their schedule and not suffer any more untimely delays.Just trying to be optimistic.Later.
Oh boy, this simply confirms that AMD has nothing to compete for 65 nm on perfromance. How are they going to fund the 45 nm tooling if 65 nm is not making any? Since the transition to 65 nm AMD is losing 500-600 million per quarter and projected till the end of 2007 if not longer!

The funny thing is, AMD has been lagging behind the manufacturing tech forever and there were always rumors about the company trying to close the gap. The rumors were there when intel moved from 130 to 90, they were there when intel moved from 90 to 65 and, surprise, surprice, they are there when intel moves from 65 to 45. I´d be concerned if AMD would stop trying to close the gap because that would mean the´d fall behind a lot more.
I think this time AMD know their gonna get their arse handed to them by intel unless they make the jump to a fully working and decent clocking 45nm node by the end of Q3 next year, I mean look at that new G0 stepping by intel 3.9ghz on stock cooling and on the 45nm node its only going to cool things down even more and allow higher clocks(possibly).
The quad core phenom is the one im looking at it will be very interesting to see how that performs, and hopefully overclocks. Glad AMD finally putting a bit mroe catch onto their prossessors, with the X2's having 1mib and the core2duos having like 4mib.
