Hello group,

I remember seeing a product on ebay and on another computer type site about
a tuning CD/DVD. It might be that I am not spelling it correctly, but I
think im close. Anyways, I cannot seem to find what I am looking for. Most
searches end with dvd players themselves, not the HDTV tuning disk.

I want to get it for my friends 42 in. HDTV, but maybe also for myself. Can
they be used to fine tune a pc monitor (Hewlett Packard A4033A) as well?
Does it also offer any audio (namely 5.1) tuning? Or, are there even better
products than the one I am thinking of?

Thanks all,
SL

Free pirated copy periodically posted to binaries newsgroups.

Thanks Brian,

I have to be honest and say that over the years, I have never tried to
download broken up binaries. I use OE and just never gave it much effort.
I would certainly try to acquire the bought copy first. It was only 10
dollars, not a back breaker for me. But just in case, you dont have a
torrent link for it? I will try ebay in the meantime.

Honest, thanks for the answer though.

Go to Amazon and type in AVIA. First returned item is the correct one.

No, the disc is used for setting up a TV which has a different gamma
than a PC monitor. I suppose if all you did with your computer you
could technically set it up for viewing, but it's going to screw up the
settings for everything else you do.

Yes, it does audio calibration. You need to buy a db level meter.
Radio Shack sells them.

I would suggest NOT d/l the pirate copy. Leaving the whole piracy
issue aside, it MAY be recompressed to fit on a single layer disc,
therefore the video quality would have to be reduced, and that may
change the calibration.

Try Amazon.com

I used this for my 55" Mitsu ... never seen a better looking TV yet!

I did see it, thanks. That copy looks different from the original one I saw
(a year ago?). But then again, that was on ebay and might not of have been
the original product. That would also explain the much cheaper price.
Considering the 50-60$ range, I will let my friend buy the copy on his
Wifes! credit card. Now that is sweet. On a related note, will it do much
for non-HDTV dish network tv programs? I believe that is what he currently
has. Example, old Rosanne episodes on the Oxygen network? Dont laugh, the
wife watches that stuff. Ok,...laugh. But I believe you probably guessed
what Im getting at.

Im sure once I get the cd, most if not all the questions will be answered.
But you all are the ammunition I will need to convince them to buy it.

Thanks again group,
SL

It optomizes the TV...not the programming! Whatever he watches it will be
the best it can be.

The newer Digital Video Essentials is supposed to be much better.
Furthermore, there is now on-disk explanation of how to use it. I don't
have it so I am just nattering on about what I have heard/read.

It is being sold on Amazon.com. And, "DVD Essentials" is a good adjunct because
it has 1080i patterns whereas AVIA does not. Both used together probably yield
the best results. And, you need a Radio Shack sound meter to tweak a surround
sound system if you have one of those.

For the price, you can't go wrong using from Avia and Digital Video Essentials.

There are? Average is 4 out of 5 stars.
