I just recently successfully built a new computer using arctic silver ceramique thermal paste (by mistake wanted the arctic silver 5). My temperature runs fine and everything on the newly built rig cpu (29c idle 38c hot) gpu (39c idle 52c hot). I had some left over and decided to use it on my old system. It's a AMD Athlon 3000+ with everything stock and my temperature was 38 to 48. I also took off my chaintech 5500 graphic card heatsink/fan and replaced the thermal paste as well it ran around 45c to 58c. I took all the old thermal paste off with cotton swabs and a mixture of 50% water and 50% rubbing alcohol. Now the temperature for the cpu is 34c idle and 59c for the 5500. But when I load even the simplest programs my cpu shoots up to 70c easy and keeps going I shut it down fast when I see this happening so I don't know how hotter it will get. The Graphic card goes to 70's as well. I made sure they were setted properly on the count there stuck very tightly. The fans on both are running like normal. I'm using speedfan to check the temperature. Any thoughts?
