I bought a wireless linksys router and a couple pci cards for 2 PCs.
I have it setup where the DSL goes into the router which is plugged into one computer. The other computer picks up the DSL from the wireless nic.
Do I even need a wireless nic on the one attached to the router. It seems to be working fine even though I haven't quite figured out how to get filesharing to work yet. The PC on the wireless nic can access the other computer, but not visa versa.
The only reason I really ask is because both PC's need to be networked and I can't really find the wireless network on the card with no nick since it doesn't even register it.
Am I making any sense? I haven't slept much.
Back to basics...
2 PC's. One DSl connection. How would you connect them so that they share internet and I can have a home network?
unless you're going to have it route, each PC needs only 1 NIC. Doesn't matter if it's wireless or physical. Just have to get the wireless NIC to work with the settings (SSID, WEP 64 or 128 Bit, MAC address filtering etc.)
Ok,
Router connects to modem through Cat5 (wire)
PC connects to router via Cat5, no need for wireless, wired is faster
Other PC connects to router through wireless
File Sharing:
Need to know if yer OS is XP, 98, 2K, etc. Is it XP pro or Home? If XP pro:
Right click on my computer and click on manage
From manage expand shared folders
Right click on shared folders and new file share
Follow directions
meh?
-Faster, Better, Stronger ...mmm Cake
-Windows makes baby Jesus cry
Ok, that answers my question. Since I'm plugging the PC directly into the wireless router I don't need the other wireless nic. I had it working but didn't understand why I had this other wireless nic unless I wanted the modem and router in another room.
