overclok opteron

HI there,

Today I purchased a Opteron 165 processor (skt 939) .....I know that it's the best CPU on 939 if u want to overclock. I tryed do put the cpu frequency on 250 and cpu multiplier on 9x, but it doesn't work.....worse....the OS does not boot at all. How can I overclock it, to get at least 2.5-2.6 ghz?

Do gradual overclocks so you can work out the limit of your chip and you may need to increase the CPU voltage to achieve stability at higher frequencies.

What is your core voltage set at?

plus you have to have an appropiate cooler, air or water, doesnt matter at all but you have to get rid of the stock heatsink

Be sure to set your hyper transport to at least 4x if not 3x. Most likely that is what is holding you back. Also set your ram to ddr 333.

FINALY

I had to set hypertransport to 4x and ddr frequency to ddr3 to overclock my opty to speeds up to 2700 mhz. (maybe little higher). What voltage would be optimal thisoverclocking? My CPU runs now at ~2650 mhz. and CPU voltage is at 1.425 volts.

ok, set your HTT to 3x, set CPU voltage to like 1.425, ram to 133, lock your CPU multi, then slowly go up, maybe add some voltage to the NF4. then try like 250, then 270, 300. 300 is perfect you can get DDR400, and its a nice even 2.7. If you can get that your doing alright. but i went all the way up to around 330 on mine, but now im at like 324 FSB Mhz so try that to go higher.
