I have a Samsung 5063 and a Motorola 6208 cable receiver. The receiver gives
me the option to select 720p but when I do the screen goes blank with the
occasional flash. of the setup screen.

Any thoughts why?

Be assured that you have the component cables plugged into the appropiate
inputs. Some Samsung sets have different inputs for the 480 and 720, etc.
