I have looked at several, and they all require additional power for the USB, and they all get that power from a USB port!

Given that I am putting this into a Compaq Armada 1560DM, which has NO USB port, I consider the design of what's available to buy as deficient, inadequate, and stupid on the part of the companies. How does anyone get power from a non-existant USB port, and why would you use an adaptor to add a USB port if you had one built in?

Post if you've seen an intellegently designed device that get's it power elsewhere.

PC CardBus to USB 2.0 Host Adapters whether 2 port or 4 port get the initial USB power from the laptop itself, if boosted USB power is needed a standard wall powered USB 2.0 Hub should be all thats needed.

But for using a standard power drawing device like a USB memory stick or flash drive, additional power is not necessary, just plug straight into the adapter.
