How to use fdisk from vista

unable to format overloaded external disk using windows format

There is no fdisk in Vista, you use Disk Managment to create/delete/format partitions. You can format from the command prompt by typing "format x:" without the quaotes where x = your drive letter.
What error messages are you getting when trying to format?
